Stephen Fletcher leads our service of Morning Prayer on the Third Sunday of Lent and preaches on John 2:13-22 The Cleansing of the Temple.

John 2:13-22New International Version - UK (NIVUK)

Jesus clears the temple courts

13 When it was almost time for the Jewish Passover, Jesus went up to Jerusalem. 14 In the temple courts he found people selling cattle, sheep and doves, and others sitting at tables exchanging money. 15 So he made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple courts, both sheep and cattle; he scattered the coins of the money-changers and overturned their tables. 16 To those who sold doves he said, ‘Get these out of here! Stop turning my Father’s house into a market!’ 17 His disciples remembered that it is written: ‘Zeal for your house will consume me.’a]" style="box-sizing: border-box; font-size: 0.625em; line-height: 22px; position: relative; vertical-align: top; top: 0px;">

18 The Jews then responded to him, ‘What sign can you show us to prove your authority to do all this?’

19 Jesus answered them, ‘Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days.’

20 They replied, ‘It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and you are going to raise it in three days?’ 21 But the temple he had spoken of was his body. 22 After he was raised from the dead, his disciples recalled what he had said. Then they believed the Scripture and the words that Jesus had spoken.

NEW VICAR

We are very pleased to be able to announce that Rev. Rebecca Fardell has been appointed as the new Vicar for Sunnyside and Bourne End Churches. We all felt at interview that Rebecca is exactly the right person to fulfil the role set out in our parish profiles and that God has sent her to us to lead us forward both as a church and as individuals in our Christian journeys. We believe she will nurture, encourage, challenge and inspire us all. When offered the post, she was delighted and accepted immediately.  We look forward to welcoming her into our two church families.

A message from our new Vicar – Rev Rebecca Fardell

'I am currently the assistant curate of the Itchen Valley Parish, four villages east of Winchester. Before ordination, I was a teacher and museum curator; history and museums remain passions of mine. I am the devoted aunt of two beautiful nieces and three gorgeous godchildren (aged 16 years - 4 months) who all bring me much joy.

I am excited about what God will do in us, through us and for us at Sunnyside and Bourne End and am thanking Him for the privilege and joy of coming to serve as your new vicar.'

Please continue to pray for Rebecca as she prepares to join us in May and for the churches she will be leaving. Her service of Institution will be on Wednesday May 17th at Sunnyside.

We are here every Sunday at 10:30* - Why not join us!

* And every Second Sunday at 6:00pm! And every 2nd Wednesday for our Pot Luck Lunch!
