Ascension Day Balloon is Found!

We celebrated Ascension Day on Sunday May 16th this year.   The Caravanners launched a beautiful red balloon as a reminder of Jesus' Ascension into Heaven.

Last week someone walking their dog about 56 miles away near Chelmsford in Kent, found our balloon in a pea field!

Coffee and Cakes at St John's, Bourne End

Started in January 2009 there is a coffee morning at the church on the Final Friday of every month between 10 am and noon.  Tea and coffee and delicious homemade cakes will be served.  The St John's pastoral care Team decided to establish this event after the success of our pre-Christmas Coffee morning in November...

SecondSunday@Six

Following the positive response from villagers to an evening service at the church on Remembrance Day in November, the PCC have enthusiastically embraced plans for beginning a new series of services at 6.00pm in the New Year. They will happen, as the name suggests, on the second Sunday of the month starting in February (see dates below). The 10.30am services will continue every week as usual but it is clear that many people would value the opportunity that a regular evening service would bring. It has many advantages:-

1. Sunday morning can be busy for people. In our culture there are so many ‘other options’ on a Sunday morning.
2. Sunday morning can be hectic – even in church. An opportunity to come and worship in the quiet of the evening might well be a real oasis of peace for many.
3. It gives us the opportunity to try different styles and ways of worship; not just the traditional but the more reflective and contemplative too. We plan to have our own ‘songs of praise’ on one of these occasions too.
4. A regular special monthly service will help those who want to come but feel the morning service is not for them or they are unable to relate to it.

It should be easy to remember which Sundays the services are happening simply by remembering the name SecondSunday@Six. We will be producing a follow-up flyer when all the details have been finalised but if this new venture might interest you I suggest you mark up your new 2009 diary now. Feb 8th / March 8th / April 12th (which is Easter Day) / May 10th / June 14th and July 12th.
